RANGERS have shown that they can react to a negative and respond in adversity when required. But the fact that they find themselves in these situations so often will really frustrate Steven Gerrard and his staff.

He is looking for consistency and that is hard to find. When you are at a club like Rangers, you need to win every game that you play.

Look at Celtic at Kilmarnock last weekend. They stole the three points in the last minute, but that is the mark of a team that wins things.

When you don’t play at your best, you still need the three points.

Rangers weren’t at their best against St Johnstone and only got the one. They need to learn to win ugly at times and, no matter the performance, make sure they are victorious.

A lot of these players haven’t played regular football at this level over the last couple of years and some of them haven’t had to deal with the expectation that they are under now that they are at Ibrox.

Maybe that is why there has been a dip at times this season.

There were a few doubts going into the Scottish Cup game on Wednesday night how Rangers would perform after a really disappointing draw in the league with St Johnstone at the weekend.

But they absolutely battered Kilmarnock and thoroughly deserved the victory. If that doesn’t give them confidence, then nothing will.

It is a blow to be without Alfredo Morelos against Hamilton on Sunday but it is a game that Rangers just have to win and Steven will be hammering home that message.

Rangers let themselves down too often and that can’t keep happening.
