FORMER Rangers boss Alex McLeish has paid tribute to his "mentor" Walter Smith following his sad passing.
Smith led Rangers to 10 top-flight titles, five Scottish Cups and six League Cups as well as to the UEFA Cup final in 2008.
McLeish succeeded Smith as Scotland manager and he also had a close relationship with the Ibrox legend during his time as Rangers boss.
In a statement, McLeish said: "I am devastated to hear about the passing of Walter Smith.
"My thoughts are with Walter's wife Ethel, his sons Neil & Steven and the whole family.
"Walter was a great mentor to me in my coaching career and someone I learned a great deal from, but more importantly, he was a great friend and I always looked forward to being in his company.
"He is a TRUE LEGEND of the Football World. On behalf of my family, we shall miss him
dearly."
