KENNY MILLER has hailed Alfredo Morelos for the ‘wonderful achievement’ of racking up a century of goals for Rangers.

But he reckons the Colombian still needs to get back to his best if the Light Blues are to hit their silverware targets this season.

Miller was the last Rangers player to net 100 goals for the club, a milestone that Morelos reached with his match-winning strike - his sixth goal of the campaign - in Sunday’s 2-1 victory over St Mirren.

But, despite reaching the remarkable achievement in just 199 games, Miller believes ‘El Bufalo’ has allowed his standards to drop of late, and must rediscover top form to give Rangers the best chance of retaining their Premiership title and adding a cup this term.

The former Scotland marksman - who scored 116 times in three spells with the Ibrox side - said: “For Rangers to be successful and to stay at the top of the league and win cups, Alfredo needs to be firing and scoring goals. There’s no doubt about it.

“He’s the focal point of the team. He's got better, but I'd say in the last 18 months he’s not been quite as eye-catching and the amount of goals he’s scored is not as many as the previous season or two.

Glasgow Times:

“For him to be at the top of his game, Rangers have got a better chance of being successful this year.

“He lives right on the edge, he’s a confident lad in his own ability and it’s a wonderful achievement.

“To score 100 goals in less than 200 games is outstanding, it’s big, big numbers. If he maintains that then you’d take that from your striker, a one in two ratio.

“It's a fantastic achievement, well done to him, and I'm sure he'll just want to continue that form and add to it as the season moves forward.”

Rangers roared back from a goal down against the Buddies to win for the second time in their last three league games and Miller reckons it is their cutting edge that is currently keeping Steven Gerrard’s side ahead of their challengers.

He added to Sky Sports: “It’s been well-documented they might not be at their best this season but they’re getting the job done.

“When you’ve got people who can score goals and quality from the wider areas from [James] Tavernier or [Nathan] Patterson or [Borna] Barisic, with the delivery and the service the forwards get, they’re always going to get chances.

“At the moment, that’s what’s keeping them at the top of the league.”
