REFEREE Nick Walsh has been hailed for his advantage decision during Saturday's Scottish Premiership clash between Celtic and St Johnstone.

In the lead up to the Hoops' second goal, Walsh gave waved on play despite two Saints fouls.

As a result Celtic ended up with a penalty when defender Liam Gordon brought down Kyogo on the edge of the box.

Former referee Keith Hackett was impressed by the decision as he analysed Walsh's performance.

He told Football Insider: “This was brilliant. Often you can play advantage and it doesn’t come off. To apply two advantages and to keep the game running, it was pretty good officiating.

“This is a referee that is moving well around the field of play, he’s confident, he’s managing players very effectively. At the core of it all is he’s making accurate decisions.

“He’s got a great understanding of the game, he’s got a great understanding of the players, referees of that quality need to be encouraged. Well done him.

“If I was the boss of the PGMOL now I’d say ‘Fancy a couple of games in England?’

“Praise the decision. Look at his proximity to play, well done him.

“What we have to understand is the line is the penalty box, so I’m giving it. Look at his position! That’s a better position than VAR in England.

“He’s a really good referee, I’ll keep an eye on him.”
