Jordan Jones has bid farewell to 'biggest club in Scotland' Rangers as he revealed he sought out advice from defender Leon Balogun before heading to Wigan.

The winger made the move to the EFL outfit on a permanent deal this afternoon.

After the switch was confirmed, Jones wasted little time in thanking his boyhood club for the time he spent at Ibrox, as well as praising Kilmarnock where he enjoyed his most prosperous time as a player.

"My time up at Kilmarnock was fantastic and I couldn’t have gotten much more out of it really," the Northern Irishman revealed. "When I left there we were third and had got into Europe and that was a really successful spell. I worked with some great players and a great manager in Steve Clarke.

“I went to Rangers, the biggest club in Scotland; fantastic, the fans are unbelievable and it was a massive season for them last year winning title number 55.

"I did not play as much last season as I would have liked to due to a few reasons but it’s in the past and I’m looking forward to the next step in my career

"I’m over the moon, it’s been in the pipeline for about eight weeks and I’m delighted to get it sorted."

Jones asked former teammate at Sunderland, Max Power, for his advice as the midfielder currently stars for the Latics. But it was Gers ace Balogun whose comments carried even more weight.

"I (also) spoke to Leon Balogun at Rangers who was really complimentary and said it is full of good people," he added. "Everyone who I’ve spoken to has been really positive, especially at the minute.

"The club went through a bit of struggle but with the new owners and with Leam in charge, I think it’s a good time to be here."
