STEVEN GERRARD hopes Rangers fans will savour the celebrations when his side are crowned Premiership champions in the coming days.

But the Ibrox boss has issued a note of caution to supporters following the impromptu fireworks display during the 1-0 win over Livingston that moved his side closer to a 55th league flag.

Rangers will be confirmed as champions this weekend if they beat St Mirren and Celtic fail to overcome Dundee United and the wait for the first silverware in a decade will end sooner rather than later.

Fans set off fireworks during the 55th minute outside the Tony Macaroni Arena and Gerrard has urged supporters to be sensible with their celebrations as they party amid the pandemic restrictions.

Gerrard said: “It doesn’t really matter how it comes. We want to be champions, we want to be champions as quick as we can.

"We’re on the verge of that. We want to go and grab it, in an ideal way. We want to win this it’s not about another club or any other team it’s about us.

"It’s about us achieving 55 as quick as we can, that’s the only focus here and that’s all that’s important.

“I think there are two sides to this (the fireworks). It’s fantastic to see the fans back smiling and in a good place. The fans have been through a lot at this football club and if anyone deserves to be in a good place at the moment and really excited and dreaming it’s our support.

"They have stuck by the club through thick and thin and we really understand where they are at the moment and we want to go and achieve something really special for them, first and foremost.

“At the same time, they’ve just got to be careful because things were coming on to the pitch, the fireworks were dropping on to the pitch.

"By all means enjoy it and really enjoy this moment and this time, of course, but I don’t want my players dodging fireworks while the game’s going on, that’s fore sure.”
