POLICE SCOTLAND is issuing a re-appeal for information on the man who was shot in the face in Cambuslang after a “disappointing” response from the public.

The force has now also confirmed the BMW car involved in the attack - later found burnt-out - had been stolen almost two months ago from the Newton Mearns area.

The Evening Times previously told how a man was shot in the face while sitting in his parked van on Monday evening.

The 37-year-old victim, who was later named as Clydebank kennels owner Scott Bennett, managed to drive off from the attempted murder bid and raised the alarm at a nearby restaurant.

Police Scotland said Mr Bennett was waiting in his white Peugeot van in the car park of Taylor Veterinary Practice in East Kilbride Road at around 5.30pm when a light-coloured BMW 3 Series Coupe pulled up beside him.

The passenger in the BMW, who was wearing a high visibility vest, got out of the car with a gun and shot the victim through the window.

The victim sped off before stopping at the nearby Blue Rupee restaurant where emergency services were called.

Mr Bennett was then taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to serious facial injuries.

His condition is described by medical staff as being stable.

The BMW thought to be involved in the shooting was found on fire near Cathkin Golf Club later in the evening.

The police force is still hunting for the would-be killer.

Detective inspector Alan MacDonald from Cambuslang CID, said: “Since my earlier appeal, we have received very little information from the public.

“If you have any information about this brazen attack or who may be responsible, please get in touch.

“I am also able to say that the car involved, which was found burnt-out in Cathkin Road, close to the golf course at around 7pm, was a BMW 420i.

“It had been stolen from the Newton Mearns area on Thursday, October 11, 2018.

“If you have any information about who stole the car or its movements since it was stolen in October, please come forward.

“I am keeping an open mind about why the man was targeted, but I’m content this was not a random attack and he was the intended victim.

“Our increased high-visibility re-assurance patrols are continuing in the area and our extensive enquiries are ongoing.

“I’m reiterating my appeal for anyone who was in the vicinity of Taylors Veterinary Practice between 5.15pm and 5.45pm, or Cathkin Road near to the golf club between 5.15pm and 7.15pm, to contact police if they saw or heard anything at all suspicious.

“If you have a dashcam which may have captured anything that could assist our investigation, call Police Scotland as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information should contact Cambuslang CID via 101, quoting incident number 3325 of Monday, December 3, 2018.
