Scottish Water is seeking permission to add solar powered carports for electric vehicles at its offices in Stepps.

The utilities company has submitted a planning application for eight solar powered car ports, featuring around 2,000 solar panels, at its office The Bridge which opened in 2013.

Technical drawings show that each port would have solar panels mounted on an overhead rack.

The application also includes a motor control centre kiosk.

The office building already makes extensive use of renewable energy systems as it features a biomass boiler, 12 kilowatts in solar panels and a 20 kilowatt solar thermal system. When it opened it was considered the most environmentally friendly building of its kind in Europe.
