A SMALL nursery in Renfrewshire has received a positive report following a recent inspection.
Erskine Community Nursery, which is based in St Anne’s Primary, was found to have a number of key strengths, including children who are “happy, confident and settled".
The Education Scotland team added: “They demonstrate a high level of respect for each other and are proud of their nursery.”
The report also praised the nursery’s “very positive relationships which have created a strong sense of family and community for everyone involved” and added: “As a result, children, their families and practitioners are nurtured and respected as individuals with differing strengths, needs and interests."
The inspectors highlighted the nursery’s strong community links, in particular its “extensive use …of the local community as a rich resource to stimulate and extend learning through real-life and meaningful experiences".
The nursery, which currently has 16 children attending, opened in 1984.
One area for improvement, which was identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from Renfrewshire Council, outlined a need for the nursery to “continue to develop further approaches for planning, assessing and monitoring the progress children make in their learning. This should help ensure all children make the best possible progress".
Suzi Barr, the nursery’s manager, said: “We had a very positive experience with Education Scotland and feel the report is a true reflection of ECN St Anne's.
“We try to create a ‘big play date’ feeling within our nursery, where the children get to spend time with their friends, with our amazing qualified staff supporting and extending their learning.
"We are part of a wonderful community and take our role as responsible citizens seriously.”
She added: “We are pleased our links within the community have been recognised, we are very proud of those.”
