Police have provided an update after a busy road has been left CLOSED following an emergency incident.

It comes after we reported a bus burst into flames on the A725 at High Blantyre shortly after 12.30pm on Thursday, April 11.

The road was closed during the incident, however, the southbound carriageway has since reopened, Traffic Scotland has confirmed.

Now, Police Scotland has revealed no one has been injured and there were no passengers on the bus before it went on fire.

In an image shared with the Glasgow Times - a single-decker bus was pictured on fire on the road.

Several firefighters were also pictured tackling the blaze.

The force has said the eastbound carriageway towards Blantyre still remains closed.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 12.40pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024, we were requested to attend a bus on fire on the A725 East Kilbride Road, Blantyre. 

"Emergency services attended and there were no reports of any injuries and there were no passengers on the bus.

“The eastbound carriageway towards Blantyre is closed at the junction with the B7012 while emergency services are in attendance."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 12.33pm on April 11 to reports of a single-decker bus on fire on the A725 East Kilbride Expressway.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances to the scene.

“There are no reported casualties, and the crews remain in attendance."
