Glasgow homes have been left in darkness due to an 'emergency incident'.

Scottish Power has said those living in the G42 0BX, G44 4NA, G44 4NB, G44 4NF, G73 2EB, G73 2EE, G73 2EF, G73 2ES, and G73 2RG postcodes have been hit by a power cut.

It comes after engineers from the firm carried out an 'emergency shutdown' to the power supply in the areas at 3.15am on Friday, April 5, to work along with 999 crews to repair damage to an electrical box on Curtis Avenue in Rutherglen.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they attended the incident.

They said it involved a car crashing into an electric box.

Power in the area is expected to be restored at 12pm today.

A spokesperson for Scottish Power said: "This is a message for customers in the G42 and G44 postcode areas of Glasgow.

"It was necessary for our engineers to carry out an emergency shutdown at 3.15am to work along with emergency services to repair damage to an electrical box on Curtis Avenue and this may affect the supply to your property.

"We will work to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 12pm."
