An urgent update has been revealed on the closure of the M8 over the Easter weekend.

We reported that essential overnight maintenance was being carried out on the eastbound M8 between Junctions 19 and 15 and westbound M8 between Junctions 16 and 18.

This would be done in several phases throughout 2024.

However, Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland has said the works will be paused during the Easter weekend.

Eastbound works will stop on Thursday, March 28 at 6am and recommence on Sunday, April 7 at 10pm.

Westbound works will now begin on Tuesday, April 2 at 10pm.

Works will then continue to follow the timeline outlined below.

Eastbound

Closures will start with Phase Two of the eastbound works which will take place between Sunday, March 17 and Friday, May 10 from 10pm until 6am, each night, excluding weekend nights.

Eastbound work will be carried out using overnight closures only, Sunday to Friday, on the following dates: March 17 to March 22, March 24 to March 29, April 7 to April 12, April 28 to May 3, May 5 to May 10.

Signs for the following diversions will be in operation:

Eastbound M8 traffic will come off the M8 at junction 18 (St George's Road) onto St George's Road, then onto Garscube Road, Dobbie's Loan, then back onto the M8 at junction 16 (Craighall).

There will be eastbound slip road closures at junctions 19 and 18 (Charing X) with traffic being directed to North Street and St George's Road to join the main diversion.

Westbound

Phase One of westbound works will take place between Sunday, March 31 and Friday, May 24 from 10pm until 6am, each night, excluding weekend nights.

Signs for the following diversions will be in operation:

This diversion will be as follows between April 4 and 6 and will return to the above diversion on April 7:
