A Coronation Street favourite is set to thread the boards at a Glasgow Theatre by starring in a hit musical.

Sue Cleaver will take on the role of Mother Superior in the 2023 Olivier Award nominated production of Sister Act The Musical at Glasgow's Kings Theatre.

The show is set to take place on April 29 and will run until May 4.

She said: ‘‘I’m thrilled to be stepping into the habit and joining the incredible company of Sister Act on tour.

"It’s been over 30-years since I’ve been on stage but theatre has always been my first love. A chance to take on a role like this feels like heaven.”

Additional cast members include Landi Oshinowo as Deloris Van Cartier, Alfie Parker as Eddie Souther and Ian Gareth-Jones as Curtis Jackson.

Details on further casting will be announced soon.

She is known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw on Coronation Street, a part she has played for 23 years.

Her career has earned her various awards including Favourite Female Soap Star, Best Soap Actress, and Most Popular Actress at the National Television Awards for which she was nominated for twice.

The musical, based on the popular film, is a tribute to friendship, sisterhood, and music.

It tells the comical tale of a disco diva placed under protective custody in a convent after witnessing a murder.

Under the watch of Mother Superior, she helps the sisters find their voices while rediscovering her own.

Directed by Bill Buckhurst, Sister Act is choreographed by Alistair David, with set and costume design by Morgan Large.

The musical features original music by Tony and eight time Oscar winner Alan Menken and is co-produced by Jamie Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg.
