More than 80 new council homes are to be bought at two sites near Glasgow.

South Lanarkshire councillors have agreed to the purchase of 49 homes at Brackenhill Farm in Hamilton and 40 homes at Jacktonhall in East Kilbride, for £17.8 million.

The 89 new homes consist of a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes including cottage flats, terraced homes, and semi-detached and detached houses.

Barratt Homes is expected to complete the developments in 2026.

Chair of the council’s housing and technical resources committee, Councillor Davie McLachlan, said: “These homes are a welcome addition to the council’s housing stock and meet the varying needs of people across South Lanarkshire.

“They will contribute to the council’s ambitious target to deliver 1,300 additional homes across South Lanarkshire by 2027.

“The Strategic Housing Investment Programme, agreed in November 2023, further builds on that commitment and includes projects with a total potential capacity for delivering more than 2,400 affordable homes in South Lanarkshire to March 2029.

“We are determined to provide residents across the area with high-quality homes and this is just one of the ways in which we will deliver them.”
