A city awards ceremony that celebrates sports heroes from across the city is calling for nominations as the deadline draws near.

Glasgow's Sport Awards 2023 recognises outstanding dedication and achievement of individuals, organisations, and projects that encourage people in our communities to get more active and participate in sports.

Organisers are calling for nominations ahead of the deadline at midnight on Saturday, September 30.

Bailie Annette Christie, chair of Glasgow Life which presents the awards, urged people to submit their nominations before the deadline.

She said: “Glasgow’s Sport Awards are an important recognition of the extraordinary efforts of so many individuals and groups in our communities.

"From volunteer helpers in our schools and local clubs to coaches and elite athletes, each makes a hugely valued contribution to making sport such an integral part of life in Glasgow.

“I’d encourage everyone not to delay in getting their nominations in for these special awards celebrating all that these local heroes do to inspire and encourage active involvement in sport – making such a difference to health and wellbeing in the city while enhancing its reputation as a destination renowned for sport.”

Spanning all types of sport and physical activity, from grassroots to professional levels, Glasgow’s Sports Awards categories include Glasgow Volunteer Award, Glasgow Community Impact Award, Glasgow Coach Award, Glasgow Sportsperson of the Year Award, and Glasgow Lifetime Achievement Award.

The winners will be announced on November 27 at a gala ceremony at the Emirates Arena’s Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

In addition to paying tribute to the commitment, contribution and successes of local groups, sports clubs and schools – as well as individuals including volunteers, coaches and athletes – this year’s awards will celebrate Glasgow’s year as European Capital of Sport 2023.

Nominations can be submitted by anyone over the age of 14 and are quick and easy to submit online by clicking here.
