FOLK are always saying that Scotland has four seasons in one day, but I don’t really believe that.

For me, there are two types of weather categories in our dear green place: taps aff and slow cooker season.

Obviously, when taps aff time appears, we all devour failed BBQ attempts and the bizarre yet widely accepted rolled up ham, coleslaw and cold hard-boiled eggs combination.

Glasgow Times:

However, I’m a much bigger fan of the slow cooker days than the sunny ones – mainly because I am as peely-wally as they come but that’s another story.

That is, unless, you attempt to make your first ever stew, completely mess it up and end up with a device that is impossible to clean let alone prepare a meal a la me last week so, chippy it is.

The Southside has never let me down too badly so I decided to go with a Leo Fish and Chips on Govan Road.

We opted for a munchie box to share this time around with chips and cheese on the side for me plus a chips and curry for my partner.

“Why do you need two portion of chips if you’re getting a munchie box?,” you may ask.

Well, oddly enough, it didn’t mention chips on the menu description. Maybe some people are on board with that but I am certainly not willing to have a chippy without chips. It would practically be a crime.

Anyway, there were chips in the box when it arrived alongside the 1/4 pizza crunch, 1/4 fried pizza, sausage, hamburger, two fritters and two pickles, plus a choice of curry or gravy.

It was a good choice and a lot of food for £7.95.

My only real complaint was I felt fish would’ve been a better option than, maybe, the hamburger because, let’s face it, a “hamburger”

from the chippy isn’t what we’d normally class as a burger.

We didn’t finish it all, which may have been a result of ordering two extra bags of chips, so I would recommend it would be best for three or four people as opposed to two.

Delivery was quick, the restaurant obliged my request for a meal sans vinegar – unpopular opinion, I know, but I can’t stand the stuff – and there was no need for a steel brush to be whipped out at the end of the night.

All around a pretty basic chippy but when can you ever go wrong with that on a cold, wet Glasgow night?
