A CITY centre plant shop has announced it will close after being "unable to find" an alternative location.

Bosses at PlantMama said on social media they will be closing their Bell Street store on Wednesday, April 10, as extending the lease on the Merchant City unit "wouldn't work for us as a family".

They said they had been searching for another location in the city centre for almost a year but have been unable to find one.

They still currently have a store on Pollokshaws Road and will be opening a studio space in Dennistoun in the coming weeks until they can find the "perfect spot" in the city centre.

A post on Facebook read: "You may have already heard if you’ve been into the shop recently, but we will be closing our Bell Street branch on Wednesday, April 10.

"We know for many of you this will be disappointing news, but despite searching for almost a year we’ve been unable to find a suitable alternative in the city centre and, unfortunately, we know extending the lease on this location wouldn’t work for us as a family.

"Until we find the perfect spot, we’ll be opening our studio space in Dennistoun: it’s only one stop further along on the train from High Street and there’s lots of free parking.

"It’s going to take us a few weeks to get the studio ready for you, but we’ll make an announcement the moment it’s open.

"And don’t forget, you can still shop with us at our Pollokshaws Road branch, in fact things are only going to get better there with a huge delivery on its way.

"It’s turning into the jungle you knew and loved from Bell Street over the years."

The post continued: "Thank you to everyone who’s supported us this far.

"The cost-of-living crisis, paired with the difficult health issues we’ve faced as a family has made the last year a scary one at times, but we really appreciate each and every one of you for the love and support you’ve given us.

"We look forward to seeing you soon."
