The casting has been announced for the UK tour of the Oliver and Tony Award-winning comedy The 39 Steps. 

Tom Byrne, who graced television screens as Prince Andrew in The Crown, will take on the role of Richard Hannay in show which will run at Glasgow's Theatre Royal.

The show will premiere on May 28 until June 1.

Mr Byrne, who has also appeared in Bridgerton, A Discovery of Witches, and Black Mirror, will bring to life the dashing Hannay, in this adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic spy thriller.

The actor is currently in BBC 3's Dreaming Whilst Black and has a role in The Persian Version film which was released this month.

Playing opposite him is Safeena Ladha, set to portray the character of Annabella Schmidt, Pamela, and Margaret.

Her recent performances include She at London's Tara Theatre and Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby: The Immersive Show.

The cast includes Eugene McCoy as Clown 1 and Maddie Rice as Clown 2.

Mr McCoy has several film credits, including roles in Wonka, Matilda, and Paddington 2.

Ms Rice's role as Clown 2 marks the productions first female identifying actor for the role.

She took the reigns from Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the stage show of Fleabag, and her theatre credits include All My Sons and Henry V.

The 2024 UK Tour is directed by Nicola Samer, with the original creative team of designer Peter McKintosh, lighting designer Ian Scott, sound designer Mic Pool and director of movement Toby Sedgwick.

The 39 Steps is Patrick Barlow's comedic adaptation of the classic spy thriller, which saw a successful run in London’s West End for nine years until its closure in 2015.

The play has received international acclaim, including winning the Olivier Award and What's On Stage Award for Best Comedy in 2007 as well as two Tony Awards in 2008.

Hannay, complete with a stiff-upper-lip and a pencil moustache, navigates murders, double-crossing secret agents, and beautiful women.

The comedy-thriller involves four actors assuming 139 roles in 100 minutes of fun and fast-paced action.

The tour is a revival of the award-winning production directed by Maria Aitken and adapted by Patrick Barlow.
