A Scottish film festival is set to be hosted by Kirkintilloch Town Hall for the first time.

The event is being organised by the Kirky Picture Palace (KPP) which provided a selection box of festive films at the venue before Christmas.

A range of classic Scottish films are lined up for enthusiasts.

The Water Horse, Wild Rose, and Scottish Mussel are scheduled for Saturday, January 27 while Sunshine On Leith and Edie are set for the following day.

Tickets, which include full weekend passes as well as individual movie tickets, on sale now.

Councillor Jim Gibbons, chair of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture, said: "We're pleased to be able to host the Picture Palace's first-ever Scottish film festival at Kirkintilloch Town Hall.

"The homegrown cinema has been popular with people of all ages.

"Keep an eye out for more events throughout 2024."

Depending on the selection, ticket prices for adults range from £8 for Sunday films to £18 for full weekend access.

Child tickets are priced from £3 (Water Horse only) to £5 (full-weekend age-appropriate films only).

Single tickets for adults and children are also available at £5 and £3 respectively, the latter depending on the age rating of the film.

Tickets can be purchased from Create ED and online.

Doors will open 15 minutes ahead of screening times to accommodate crowd inflow, and snacks and refreshments will be sold.

Catering to all age groups, the film schedule also includes special screenings such as a dementia-friendly scene of I Know Where I’m Going! and a baby-friendly session of Brave.

Serina Marshall, cinema coordinator of the KPP, said: "We were delighted to welcome nearly 200 people to our Christmas movies on 23 December – as well as Santa Claus.

"In addition to the festive films, we also had a snow machine and the wonderful Kirkintilloch Kelvin Brass band played seasonal tunes for our customers.

"Thanks to all who supported us in 2023, not least our fantastic volunteers who make the Picture Palace possible.

"Tickets are selling well for our Scottish Film Festival – don't miss out."

Among the supporters and volunteers for the events is Elspeth Milne, who said: "I wished and hoped for a cinema in Kirkintilloch for many years.

"It's great to be part of the team that brings films to our town."
