More than £7.2 million will be used to refurbish Glencairn House and transform the B-listed building into a state of the art library, museum and community facility.
The redevelopment of Glencairn House is part of West Dunbartonshire Council’s wider ambitions to regenerate Dumbarton Town Centre alongside improving active travel and connectivity between the Town Centre, waterfront path and Dumbarton Central train station.
A total of £7.26m of the £19.9m levelling up funding (LUF) has been allocated for the work which will also create a publicly accessible archive in the existing library building.
Five top ranked contractors have now been invited to bid for the contract and an invitation to tender was issued in September with a closing date of November 17.
Once the contract has been awarded, councillors will be updated and advised of the contract value and the successful company’s commitment to the real living wage and social benefits.
Speaking at the infrastructure, regeneration and economic development committee, Michelle Lynn, assets manager, said: “The report before you today is to seek approval to conclude the award of a contract for the redevelopment of the major refurbishment of Glencairn House.
“This is a specialist employment of a contractor due to the nature of the work.
“This is to ensure that we keep on track with the programme and ensure that we comply with the LUF funding timelines for completion of the project by March 2025.”
