AN East Kilbride school has been praised in a report by Education Scotland inspectors following a recent visit.

The staff and pupils at Murray Primary were commended in a number of areas including the “highly effective and motivational leadership” of headteacher Irene Tremble, who “inspires and supports the staff team to create a warm and welcoming climate for learning.”

The report added: “This promotes a very open, trusting and extremely positive learning environment.”

The inspectors also praised the “very nurturing relationships and calm, purposeful ethos across the school” and added: “All staff and children demonstrate school values in their daily interactions. This creates the conditions for children to achieve the best possible outcomes for themselves in attainment and wellbeing.”

A number of key strengths were identified inluding the “well-paced, high-quality learning experiences delivered by enthusiastic staff” and the “highly inclusive approach” taken by teachers who “make very effective use of their areas of expertise and interest to provide rich learning experiences for children.”

Some areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from South Lanarkshire Council, including a requirement to “continue to develop implementation of play-based approaches to learning in the early level and engage with national practice guidance to improve further staff understanding of high quality play” and “as planned, senior leaders should continue to develop the school's processes for tracking the progress of children across all areas of the curriculum.”

Lynn Sherry, Head of Education at South Lanarkshire Council, said: “This report is another example of all the great work that is being carried out at Murray Primary School for the continuing benefit of all pupils.

“The school’s staff and the entire learning community work extremely hard to develop and nurture the emotional wellbeing of our young people.

“Congratulations to Mrs Tremble for her leadership and to all the school staff, parents and families and everyone at Team Murray for their fantastic dedication and commitment.”
