A MAN who bombarded his former lover with threatening messages after she refused to get back together with him has avoided jail.

James Hanlon sent the woman the chilling texts and voicemails from his home in Glasgow’s Garrowhill.

The 21-year-old also created a social media account named ‘stop bloody blocking me’ after she tried to end contact.

But, persistent Hanlon later stated: “I will not stop until I get what I want.”

Hanlon pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff court to engaging in a course of contact which caused the woman fear or alarm between September 2018 and May 2020.

But, Sheriff Tony Kelly ordered Hanlon to be of good behaviour until a hearing in November this year.

A non-harassment order was also granted preventing Hanlon from contacting the woman.

The court heard the pair began the relationship 2018 but ended due to Hanlon reportedly being with another girl.

Hanlon repeatedly contacted the woman and asked to be unblocked on Facebook.

He also contacted her friends asking to text her for him.

Prosecutor Stewart McLean said: “In January 2019 he made Snapchat accounts to contact the woman.

“The names were ‘add me back’ and ‘stop bloody blocking me’.

“He also used the Facebook account of his mother to message and say he wanted back in a relationship and wanted to meet.”

Hanlon created a further four Instagram accounts which mentioned the woman who had begun a new relationship.

The pair briefly got back together in February 2019 but split up as Hanlon “had been unfaithful to her.”

Hanlon continued to contact the woman on Facebook and left a threatening voicemail.

He said: “I’m going to come to your work and your house if you are going to continue this.

“You are being so horrible…you think you are better than everyone else but you are not.

“I’m getting angrier and angrier by the day because you don’t f***ing text me.

“If you phone the police I will come to your house and smash f*** out your windows.”

The woman got into another relationship meantime.

Hanlon messaged her new partner saying: “Keep Ada warm for me” and also made threats to assault the pair.

Mr McLean said: “He said he wanted her back and he will not stop until he gets what he wants.”

The woman reported Hanlon to the police in May last year and he was arrested.
