Glasgow is set to be battered by thunderstorms at the end of the week after the Met Office issued an amber warning.

A warning has been issued for thunderstorms in the region starting from Friday, August 6 at 10.00am until Saturday, August 7 at 9.00am.

The Met Office had previously introduced the warning for areas of England, with the warning extended to Scotland's Central Belt this morning.

Glaswegians are being warned to expect heavy showers and thunderstorms during the period.

The Met Office has also issued a warning of localised flooding as a result of the wet weather.

They said: "Slow-moving thundery downpours may cause localised surface water impacts.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services."

Although the thunderstorms are expected only until Saturday morning, it is expected that rain will continue throughout the weekend, with the hope that dry weather will return next week.
