GLASGOW’S future football stars have scored vital equipment to celebrate the city’s role as one of the hosts of Euro 2020.
Free balls, bibs, and goals were among the items dished out to teams across Scotland by Glasgow Life and Scottish Football Association chiefs in a bid to enhance the provision of the grassroots game.
With city clubs Hampden Football Club, Pollok United, Yoker Athletic FC, Glasgow City FC, and Harmony Row all netting a goodie bag, it’s hoped the boost will pave the way for future generations to follow in the footsteps of Andy Robertson and company.
The Giffnock boy became the first player to lead Scotland out at a major men’s tournament in 23 years on Monday in the team’s loss to the Czech Republic at Hampden Park.
Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who began his career at Govan’s Harmony Row, praised the Uefa Euro 2020 Club Legacy Packs, saying: “It’s fantastic to see my old boys club, Harmony Row, benefit along with other youth clubs and it’s an important part of qualifying from the Scottish FA and the city: to make sure that it has a direct benefit to young people.”
Scott Brisbane, club secretary of Hampden Football Club, said: “Scotland’s qualification has given kids a newfound love for football.”
While recovering from challenges posed by the pandemic, Hampden FC aim to use the equipment to support a current crop of players and assist in the reintroduction of teams across additional age groups.
Scott added: “Picking up the club legacy pack will help us greatly.”
Yoker Athletic FC support around 500 players at all age groups.
Shona Crawford, head of the academy, said: “We are privileged to have been awarded the legacy pack which will help so much to grow our academy.
“It has been a hard year for all players involved in football due to Covid-19 and we want to bring back that love and excitement.”

Jamie Beattie, football development officer at Glasgow City FC, said: “The pack is going to help our junior academy teams, giving them vital equipment they can use for training sessions, but will also allow us to engage our community programmes which start this
summer.”
