TENANTS are getting more bang for their buck and helping the environment with a new repairs service.

Queens Cross Housing Association has teamed up with Total Homes Co-operative to give its renters repaired and refurbished household goods, including washing machines and furniture.

The Maryhill-based social landlord said it means rather than broken or worn-out items being tossed, they are recycled and reused which is better for the planet and the bank balance.

Linda Burton, left, a tenant in Firhill, had a washing machine delivered and fitted on the same day and described the service as “excellent”.

The housing association said products were delivered “as-new” and come with a 12-month warranty.

Schemes such as this are better for the environment because they reduce the need for new goods to be produced.

Rona Anderson, Queens Cross’ director of property, said: “We are all working to reduce our carbon emission over the next few years and a circular economy model is an excellent way of making a contribution to this. Not only is it keeping goods out of landfill, it is also providing our tenants with a cost-effective way of furnishing their homes with what they need.”
