A SEX predator who had downed 30 alcoholic drinks raped a sleeping woman.

Christopher Robertson pounced on his victim at his home in Airdrie on December 9 2017.

The 39 year-old had agreed for the woman - 15 years his junior - to come to his after a night-out.

Jurors heard how Robertson had drank 10 pints of lager, six Jack Daniels and Coke, eight Jagermeister shots as well as up to five bottles of Budweiser.

He claimed this affected him having sex.

But, the High Court in Glasgow, instead, was told how Robertson took advantage of the woman as she slept in a bed.

He is now behind bars after being convicted of rape.

Robertson, still of Airdrie, was remanded in custody pending sentencing next month.

He told jurors how they had been in his home before he claimed to be tired and went to bed.

Roberston then insisted the woman eventually joined him and they "basically started kissing" before having sex.

His lawyer John Keenan asked him: "Able to have sex with her?"

Robertson: "Not for long."

Mr Keenan also put to him: "The woman said she had been in bed first.

"You also heard her describe that you had been lying on top of her when she was face down."

Robertson: "No."

Mr Keenan said the "implication" was Robertson had pulled down her clothes as she slept.

The sex attacker again denied this.

Roberston claimed he then fell asleep and was not aware of the woman leaving.

He told the court: "The next thing I remember was waking up with four CID officers in the room.

"They said there had been an allegation of rape against me.

"I said: 'Are you f***ing kidding me?'."

Roberston was said to have protested he "could hardly do anything" with the woman due to the level of alcohol.

Under cross examination, prosecutor Liam Ewing QC went through what Robertson had drank.

Mr Ewing: "That is almost 30 drinks - were you not very drunk?"

He replied: "No."

Lord Boyd deferred sentencing for reports until next month in Edinburgh.
