A BISHOPBRIGGS man who subjected cops to a tirade of abuse has avoided jail.

Ryan Kennedy told police officers they were “paedo c***s” and “grassing b******s” when they approached him at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary on January 26 last year.

The 26-year-old, who appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Wednesday, previously pleaded guilty to uttering offensive remarks, attempting to assault an officer and spitting towards an officer.

The procurator fiscal depute told the court: “Two police officers attended at the hospital due to an unrelated matter, but they had cause to speak to the accused.

“When approaching him he became aggressive and angry. He was shouting and swearing ‘f**k off, get to f**k, bunch of dafties.’

“The officers asked him to desist so they could speak with him, but he continued to shout and swear including ‘get to f**k ya cow, I don’t f*****g trust you, f**k off’.

“He was informed he was under arrest and he said, ‘you’re no arresting me, get to f**k, bunch of paedo c***s, bunch of grassing b******s.’

“He was placed in the rear of a police van and escorted to Helen Street police station. He turned his head and spat towards one of the officers but missed.

“He then lunged towards another officer and attempted to headbutt, but again missed.”

Kennedy’s solicitor said his client was remorseful following the incident.

He added: “His behaviour seemed to be out of character and is trying his best to sort that going forward. The social work report seems to be in positive terms.

“There is scope for unpaid work, he has complied with a previous order really well so there would be no problem complying with another. A restriction of liberty order is another appropriate disposal.”

Sheriff Paul Brown told Kennedy: “This is a very serious matter and you have been very close to receiving a prison sentence; however, I’m going to impose an alternative to custody.”

A restriction of liberty order was imposed on Brown, which will require him to stay within his home address between 6pm-6am for 180 days.
