A MAN is in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a lorry in North Lanarkshire. 

The 39-year-old is fighting for his life following the incident on Coatbridge's Shawhead flyover yesterday. 

He was crossing the town's Kirkshaws Road at its junction with North Road at around 11.40am when he was hit by the vehicle.

Glasgow Royal Infirmary medics have described his condition as critical. The lorry driver, 48, was uninjured. 

Sergeant Craig McDonald, from the Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell, said:  “I would urge anyone who was in the area at the time, who witnessed the crash to contact us as they may have information that will assist our investigation.

"I would also ask any drivers with dash-cam footage of the incident to come forward too.”
