A MAN who was caught stealing toys was also found to be in possession of a weapon.
Malcolm Carlin left Smyths Toy store at the Glasgow Fort without paying for a quantity of items.
The 40-year-old was then found in possession of a knife and a screwdriver on December 4, 2019.
On Monday, the procurator fiscal depute told the court: “A security officer observed the accused looking at goods and placing them into a shopping trolley without taking the time to consider them.
“She said he was placing the goods in the trolley and then walking to quiet places within the store and concealing them into a carrier bag.
“Mr Carlin was observed attempting to pay for items at pay points, but his card was declined. Employees recovered these goods.
“The accused then passed the pay points and exited the store with further goods still concealed within a bag.
“He was stopped outside the store and invited back in. He was cooperative and complied.
“The accused freely admitted taking the items.
“A black handled kitchen knife and a black and orange handled screwdriver were recovered from his bag.
“Police attended. He was cautioned and charged.”
Sheriff Valerie Mays deferred sentencing Carlin until next month for an update to be provided on a current restriction of liberty order imposed on him.
