SCOTTISH Power has promised to turn its commercial vehicles green with the purchase of 11 emission-free motors.
The energy giant wants to make all 1,200 of its vehicles that come out to houses for repairs and maintenance electric by the year 2030.
Gemma Rankine, the company’s general services director, described the step as “a real achievement”.
She said: “Creating an all-electric commercial fleet is a hugely important piece of the jigsaw and sends a strong signal to industry about the actions we all must take now if we’re to have any hope of achieving a zero-carbon future.”
The company produces 100% renewable electricity for 2 million homes across central and southern Scotland and reckons the new cars will save the atmosphere from around 30,000 tonnes of polluting CO2 a year.
