A team of specialist police officers are allegedly scanning through CCTV footage in a bid to find the Celtic Park protest thugs.

Hundreds of fans stormed the grounds of the East End club on Sunday in their calls for Neil Lennon to be sacked, following a 2-0 defeat to Ross County.

Scores of police officers and a helicopter were drafted to the scene to break up the demonstration.

Alarming footage on social media showed crowds throwing objects in the direction of riot cops as they formed rows of human shields to prevent fans from accessing the club grounds.

Three police officers sustained injuries as a result of the protest.

Sources have revealed to The Sun that specialist-trained officers are now examining CCTV footage in an attempt to trace those responsible.

The crew, understood to be undercover, are allegedly drafted to European trips to assist local forces.

A source told the paper: "Specialist officers will review mobile phone and CCTV footage to help identify those involved in criminal activity.

"They are experts in known ‘risk supporters’ and their expertise could prove vital.”

Chief Superintendent Mark Sutherland, the divisional commander for Greater Glasgow Division, warned those found responsible for launching the attacks would be brought to justice.

Glasgow Times:

He said: "It was utterly disgraceful to see the violent scenes at Celtic Park on Sunday evening.

"Three of our officers suffered injuries, albeit minor, as a result of the behavior which took place.

"Abuse and assault is not simply part of the job for police officers and staff and will not be tolerated. The Chief Constable has made it clear that this is completely unacceptable and he has committed to reducing the impact of violence and improving the safety of officers and staff.

“We have now launched an investigation to identify those who were involved in the disorder and violence towards police officers, players and officials.

“My message is clear, you won’t get away with it, don’t think just because you weren’t arrested last night does not mean you escaped.  If you are identified as being involved, you will be arrested.

“I would appeal to anyone who has any information that will assist this investigation to contact us through 101. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained."
