STEVEN DAVIS reckons the injury blow for Alfredo Morelos has come at just the wrong time after he was stretchered off against Dundee United.
The striker replaced Brandon Barker midway through the first half at Ibrox as Steven Gerrard lost Leon Balogun, Ryan Jack and the former Hibernian winger on the one afternoon.
But there was even worse news to come on the injury front as Morelos was on the end of a crude challenge from Ryan Edwards that saw a sizeable wound open up near his knee.
And Davis was disappointed to see the Colombian forced off after an encouraging showing at the end of what has been a difficult few weeks for Morelos at Ibrox.
He said: “I’d have to see it again. But I think their lad won the ball to begin with and maybe just followed through high. It was a nasty gash he got.
“It’s disappointing for Alfredo because coming back after the international break he’s looked really focused and fit. I thought when he came on he was showing that in terms of his determination off the ball as well.
“So it’s a disappointing time to pick up this injury as I felt he was getting back to what he can be. But unfortunately that’s football sometimes.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
