THREE Glasgow organisations have teamed up to create a new citywide service offering free school uniforms to families struggling financially.

Glasgow City Parents Group is working in collaboration with Glasgow's Pre-Loved Uniforms and ApparelXchange to encourage the re-use of clothing while protecting the environment.

Socially distanced drop off and collection points will be organised after all donated items are quarantined for 72 hours in line with Covid19 guidelines.

Leanne McGuire, of the Glasgow Parents Group, said: “We have joined forces to help families across Glasgow this summer because many may find themselves struggling financially due to the challenges from Covid-19.

“We have a good following of Glasgow school parents and we engage with all Glasgow schools and parent councils.

“A lot of schools run their own uniform banks and they may have a rail for families to access. But this may not be possible this year due to the restrictions of social distancing and schools keeping foot traffic to a minimum.”

Following a meeting with both organisations the organisations decided to group their resources together to provide a discreet, self-referral system where a parent, carer or family representative can email Glasgow Parents Group with their request before the information is passed onto Pre-Loved Uniforms ApparelXchange who will then organise a fee uniform package for their children.

They are also coordinating donations from parents across the city with options to drop off at three different addresses or I am also offering collection on a Friday.

Ms McGuire went on: “It’s a joint effort to supply families with a much needed service across the city and all they need to do is ask. I don’t ask their situation, the only details we require is school, gender and size.

“We are currently speaking to Glasgow City Council about promoting the service through their website.

We are so excited about this initiative because as well as providing essential support to Glasgow families, we are encouraging the re-use of clothing and reducing the impact on our environment.

“We do not need to know your financial situation or anything personal like that. If you ask, we will supply.”
