VOLUNTEERS in Cardonald have been praised for delivering over 80 parcels a week to the most vulnerable members of the community.

Cardonald Community Support, which has been in place for eight weeks, has received donations from the Plane Tree in Darnley, Mosspark & Corkerhill community council and Hillington, North Cardonald & Penilee community council to help those struggling during lockdown.

Harvest Church in Mosspark has also contributed £1000 which has allowed the group to provide more food parcels particularly to elderly residents who feel isolated at this time.

Councillor Elaine McSporran, who helped launch the organisation, said: “Without the help of the main volunteers this support would never be able to work. They are fully committed and have been there to collect donations, pack and deliver the bags.

“They have also been assisting with hot food deliveries with Pollok United and the Sikh Milapp Foodbank.

“Councillors Alex Wilson and Jim Kavanagh have been helping where they can and have also worked behind the scenes sourcing donations

“We have worked with our local Farmfoods on orders of fresh milk and bread as well as Premier Produce who prepared the bespoke packs of fruit and vegetables for us.

“Morrison’s Cardonald has also continued to provide us with weekly donations.”

Cardonald Community Support has arranged a food drive on Sunday, May 24 for the community to help donate goods to ensure there is enough supply to continue distributing food parcels.

Ms McSporran added: “Without the main volunteers who have put their heart and soul into helping their communities many people would not be able to receive the support we have provided.

“To them we say well done and thank you.”
