Commuters travelling between Scotland's two biggest cities have been faced with travel chaos this morning due to a signalling fault.

ScotRail confirmed that a number of services between Glasgow Queen Street and Edinburgh have been cancelled or delayed as a result of the issue.

The problem was first raised at around 8.30am this morning, with disruptions set to last until around 11am.

The fault has since been resolved, but with trains and crew out of position the impact is set to be continued.

Five services from Queen Street to Edinburgh have already been cancelled before 10am, with a number of services in the opposite direction currently set to also be axed.

ScotRail said on their website: "We have dealt with a signalling issue between Queen St high level and Bishopbriggs in the Cowlairs area.

"Our staff are onsite and have rectified the fault, however services remain subject to delay/alteration and possible cancellation because of congestion in the area."

Services to and from Queen Street low level are not affected.

The route between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh via Shotts is also not impacted.
