Sandwich shop Subway has gone viral after poking fun at Celtic on Twitter.

The official account found itself at the centre of a social media storm after replying to a Hoops fan online - after he criticised their new "toasted bites" range.

Twitter user "Oweny-Frimpong-Bhoy" replied to the image of the new lunchtime snack with "they look awful".

And, never one to miss a trick, Subway's official UK account replied "Not as awful as last game against Rangers".

The account made reference to the side's 2-1 defeat to their Old Firm rivals on December 29.

Dozens of fans also took to reply to the page to express their views.

One joked: "I just bought 4 subway platters for the office on the back of this tweet!"

Another added: "They’ll be waving baguette express flags at parkhead now in protest".

And a third said: "Never going to mcdonald’s again, only going to subway now".
