A man is fighting for his life after being found lying injured in a city centre street.

Police were called to Garscube Road at around 7.10am to reports of a man on the ground at a bus stop.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Medical staff describe his condition as critical.

Officers have cordoned off the area and are continuing enquiries to establish what happened to the man.

Police are looking to speak to a woman who got on a bus at the stop between 5.30am and 5.45am, and say she could hold vital information.

Detectives are also liaising with bus companies for information on what buses use that route, and are reviewing CCTV from in and around the area.

Detective Inspector Peter Sharp said: “A man has been found seriously injured and it’s important we find out what happened to him. We need to piece together the man’s movements and establish when he got to the bus stop and the circumstances of what happened.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area in the early hours of this morning to contact us with any information which could assist our enquiries.

“No matter how insignificant it may seem, please do get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to call officers at the city centre police station via 101, quoting incident number 0702 of Saturday, January 4, 2020.
