Three dead rats have allegedly been found 'sizzling' in a primary school's deep fat fryer.

The vermin were found in St Catherine's Primary in Barmulloch, Glasgow, according to The Sun.

It is claimed they entered into the cooker before it was switched on for cleaning.

A source told The Sun: “It’s disgusting. There was a small hole in the top that the rats must have used to get in.

“I think they were discovered while they were cleaning out the equipment, which is when it’s heated up.

“The deep fat fryer is not something that is used a lot but the kitchen was closed.

“It seems to be juvenile vermin that were discovered.”

Glasgow City Council says the discovery, which occurred last week, came in a routine clean-up and not during cooking.

They confirmed the kitchen has been put on "reduced production as per correct policy".

It is understood there have been no further sightings.

A spokeswoman told The Sun: “Our pest control team dealt with a situation swiftly and effectively as soon as it was reported.”
