A CHRISTMAS safety message to ensure partygoers don’t get into an unlicensed vehicle after a night out will be reiterated.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to descent to the city’s bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants to celebrate the festive period to the full.

Glasgow City Council’s festive safety initiative, to encourage people to think ahead and organise their journey home in advance, has been launched for the 13th year in a row.

There are six 'nitezones' located throughout the city centre including the West End and Shawlands, with designated marshals to help get people home.

The issue was discussed at the licensing forum on Tuesday.

Councillor Alex Wilson said: “It is paramount that we promote public health and safety. We have had a huge influx of private hire car drivers and they are not all obeying the law.

“What information are we giving to people so they know that if they get into a private hire car which isn’t pre-booked, there is no insurance and they could be putting themselves in danger.

“Can you expand your Christmas message on this?”

Lisé Fisher, city centre operations manager at Glasgow City Council, informed councillor Wilson that staff were dedicated to making sure people get into the proper transport.

Glasgow Taxis also launched a safety campaign this year.
