John Barrowman is to undergo a medical procedure on his spine after a severe neck injury forced to postpone his Christmas show at Glasgow's SECC.

The show, which was due to go ahead on Sunday, has been pushed to Tuesday while the entertainer recovers.

He took to social media to break the news to fans, and has since revealed he will be undergoing a procedure tomorrow on his spine.

Barrowman, 52, was also forced to reschedule a show in Bristol, which was due to go ahead on Saturday.

Speaking on Instagram this morning, he said: "It's about 2am, I've just had to wake up and take another painkiller and anti-inflammatory because tomorrow I'm going in for a procedure on my vertebrae

"I have to have some small needles and then some very big ones put into my neck."

"I can't really move that much, but luckily my brother-in-law is a specialist in this field so I'm in good hands."

After undergoing an MRI scan yesterday, Barrowman said doctors had discovered the root of the problem, and say it is a C5/6 facet joint injury.

In many cases, this type of injury can be caused by simple movements including a mild twist, awkward movement or doing something your body does not expect, like tripping.

On Saturday, he broke the news to fans that he had been forced to postpone his shows.

"The doctors have advised me to not perform this weekend while I try and recover, so I've had to make the very difficult decision to cancel my performances at the Bristol Hippodrome on Saturday, November 30 and at the SEC Armadillo, Glasgow, on Sunday, December 1," he wrote on Instagram.

"I am so disappointed and upset as I was looking forward to seeing you all, I feel I am letting everyone down, but it's simply not possible for me to do the show in my current condition.
