Officers investigating the serious sexual assault of a woman in Glasgow's Trongate have appealed for information. 

On Tuesday, September 10, the 36-year-old was raped in a lane in the city. 

Between 5.30 and 5.45 pm the woman was seen distressed in New Wynd.

She was assisted by members of the public who then left the area.

Shortly after she was sexually assaulted by a man. 

Detective Inspector Suzanne McNulty, the officer in charge of the enquiry, is appealing for information.

She said: "New Wynd is a pedestrianised lane, running between the King Street NCP car park and the Trongate, and is a busy thoroughfare during the day.

"I am appealing to anyone who helped the woman or who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the incident to come forward."
