A YOUNG man has been left with a fractured jaw after he was seriously assaulted in an East Kilbride restaurant. 

Police in Lanarkshire say the 23-year-old required treatment after he was punched to the face within Tinto's restaurant on Hunter Street. 

The attack reportedly happened at around 7.30pm on Sunday, September 1, just hours after the day's Old Firm derby.

However, officers say the incident was not reported to police until Tuesday, September 10, due to treatment required by the victim. 

Officers investigating are appealing for witnesses and ask anyone who can help with their ongoing inquiries to come forward.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build, with short dark coloured hair and dark facial stubble.

He was wearing a white t-shirt and possibly spoke with an American or English accent.

Detective Sergeant Craig Melrose from Cambuslang CID said: “This incident occurred a week past Sunday when many people had been out watching the afternoon’s football match.

“The victim has sustained a painful injury and we’re eager to trace the man responsible. I would ask anyone who saw this man in the vicinity of Hunter Street on Sunday, September 1, or who can help us identify him, to come forward.

“I would also ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information that can help our investigation, to get in touch with officers as soon as possible.”

Those with information should call Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 0815 of September 10.
