In a statement on their website, the group wrote: "We’re excited to let you know about our newest project: We’re planning to transform a closed-down council plant nursery into a productive organic food growing project in the South Side of Glasgow.

"Bellahouston Nursery is an unused 2 hectare site with polytunnels and a greenhouse, and we’d love to transform it into a leading example of urban food growing. We want to create a multi-use and multi-occupancy site for a range of activities around local, sustainable, low-carbon food production."

As part of the project, Locavore have the site to use for one year, complementing their ongoing work growing food across the Glasgow area, as well as their shop on Victoria Road.

However, they are looking to secure a Community Asset Transfer from Glasgow City Council to secure a long-term future for the food production.

The group added: "We envision Bellahouston as a bustling hub of food and growing activity, with many people using the site in different ways which will help build a sustainable food system for Glasgow.

"Glasgow City Council has already given Locavore Permission to use Bellahouston Nursery on a one year basis. We are now looking to secure a Community Asset Transfer from the council. This would allow us to use the site on a long-term basis so that we can invest in the site and develop it to its full potential as a pioneering hub for urban food growing and learning in Glasgow.
