THE brutal moments of an East Kilbride robbery bid have been captured on film.

A knife-wielding thug is seen entering My Local Store in Cedar Drive wearing a balaclava around 7.10pm on March 27.

He proceeds to assault a 40-year-old staff member as he demands she open the till to hand over cash.

In a bid to catch the "despicable individual" the store has now released harrowing CCTV footage and a £1,000 cash reward for information leading to an arrest.

In the clip, the thug is heard demanding the shopkeeper "open that f****** till up" but, the calm store staff member insists she doesn't have any money and refuses to open the till - despite him pulling her hair and shoving a knife in her face.

After throwing the worker against the wall, he smashes up a bottle and flees.

He made off along Cedar Drive, in the direction of St Andrews Methodist Church.

Detective Constable Craig Jolly from Cambuslang CID said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the two women working in the store, and thankfully nobody was left seriously injured or requiring hospital treatment.

“This despicable individual must be caught and I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Cedar Drive yesterday evening to consider whether they saw anything suspicious or noticed a man matching the above description making off from the scene.

“I would also urge any motorists with dashcams to check their footage in case they have captured anything which could be of significance to our investigation."

The video has been shared more than 1,000 times and garnered hundreds of comments.

Anyone who recognised the man is asked to contact police on 101 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
