FLOODING on the M8 is causing travel chaos for morning rush-hour commuters as the Glasgow is hit with heavy downpours.

Traffic Scotland first warned about the incident just after 7am.

The team has now issued an image on Twitter from a camera on the motorway eastbound at junction 27 Arkleston showing the extent of the flooding which has caused a lane to be closed.

Traffic Scotland said: “#M8 E/B J27 Arkleston - lane 1 ⛔ due to flooding. TRISS are there on scene. Traffic back to @GLA_Airport at the moment.”

The closure was lifted by 7.50am. However, tailbacks were still being seen.

As reported by the Evening Times, residents in Glasgow and its surrounding areas are waking up this morning to heavy rain as much of Scotland prepares to be battered by strong winds.

The downpours are expected to last throughout most of Friday as the Met Office warns of strong gusts on Saturday.
