RESIDENTS in and around Glasgow are set for a challenging morning commute as heavy snow and sleet, along with ice, hit much of Scotland.

Traffic Scotland has already described the M8 as looking “very wintry” and has reported traffic looking slow westbound as of 7am.

The team wrote on its Twitter page: “The #M8 is looking very wintry this morning!

“Seeing slow traffic westbound from J13 Provan to J17 Great Western Road and eastbound from J22 Kinning Park to J19 Anderston.”

A warning has also been issued in relation to the M80.

As reported by the Evening Times, up to 10cm of snow could fall on higher ground as temperatures drop across Glasgow and parts of the UK this week.

Weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued by the Met Office and flurries were reported across the city overnight.

This morning, residents are waking up to heavy snow and sleet - and overnight ice combines with the freezing rain have been causing slippery surfaces.
