FIRE crews were called to Sauchiehall Street this afternoon as shoppers were evacuated from a supermarket.
Two fire appliances were at the scene as the Co-op was cleared of customers and staff.
But the emergency turned out to be a false alarm caused by a faulty fridge.
A spokesman for the Co-op said: “Our Sauchiehall Street store was temporarily closed this afternoon as a precaution whilst we made some adjustments to a fridge.
"The store re-opened less than an hour later to serve the community as usual.”
Sauchiehall Street has been blighted by fires recently with Victoria’s Nightclub going up in flames in March last year.
This was followed by the Glasgow School of Art fire in June of last year.
