A HOLIDAY operator has revealed the most popular hotspots Glasgow sunseekers are booking to beat the January blues.

According to data from Thomas Cook’s Glasgow Silverburn Discovery store, Turkey, Balearics and Greece are the top three for the second year running.

Long-haul destinations Florida and Mexico remain strong and Tunisia has moved up the ranks.

2. Balearics

3. Greece

4. Mainland Spain

5. Mexico

6. Canaries

7. Florida

8. Tunisia

9. Cyprus

10. Portugal

Store manager Fraser Hopkins said: “Once again, many of our customers are turning their attention to their next holiday and a sunshine break they can look forward to.

“A holiday is their largest annual purchase, so they want to sit down with an agent who can provide inspiration and personal recommendations to suit their budget from our wide range of quality holidays.”

Fraser and his team have predicted that Turkey will continue to be their most popular destination as value for money is becoming a key factor in terms of holiday bookings. The Lira remains relatively weak, so it is a favourite among the public.

They also believe all-inclusive packages will become even more popular due to uncertainty around exchange rates as customers want to ‘lock in’ costs for food and drink. This is especially popular among families with young children.

Long-haul destinations, such as Mexico and Florida, are expected to remain in the top 10 as families want to take their children further afield for new experiences, without having to travel long distances to catch a flight.

The ease of flying from Glasgow on will most likely increase the popularity of these countries among travellers.
