TWO people have been rushed to hospital after a four-car crash brought a section of the M8 to a standstill this morning.

The Evening Times previously reported how, shortly after 9am, emergency services swarmed the motorway.

Lanes on the busy route westbound were shut off as traffic quickly started to build.

The accident took place at junction 6 Newhouse, reported Traffic Scotland.

The incident was cleared shortly after 10am. However, it has now emerged two casualties were taken to hospital by ambulance.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman told the Evening Times: “We were alerted at 8.46am to reports of a road traffic collision on the M8.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire engines to just before junction 7A where four vehicles had collided.

“Two casualties were checked over at the scene by Scottish Ambulance Service personnel before being transferred to Monklands General Hospital for further treatment.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”

The Scottish Ambulance has also been approached for comment.
