WORK has started on a new £3.6 million housing development on the site of a former school in Castlemilk - which is expected to be ready next year.

Ardenglen Housing Association is building 22 new homes on the vacant site of the former St Martins Primary School playing fields in the South Side area’s Ardencraig Road.

The construction work, which will be carried out by McTaggart Construction, is expected to take around one year to complete.

Ardenglen Housing Association said the development would consist of 15 one, two and three bedroom flats, four two bedroom houses and three wheelchair-accessible flats.

Audrey Simpson, who is Chief Executive of Ardenglen Housing Association, said: “This is a great step forward for Castlemilk and the delivery of new homes which we know people want. We expect people to be moving into them at the end of 2019.”

She added: “New housing helps sustain and invigorate communities and we are very pleased to be building these homes in the heart of our community.”

Maureen Cope MBE, Chairwoman of Ardenglen Housing Association, added: “Everyone will welcome this exciting new development – it is just what the community needs.

“Ardenglen Housing Association is deeply committed to making our communities great places in which to live.”
